Gel, Shellac & SNS Dip Powder Nails
CND Shellac, Gelish gel color and SNS dip powder in hundreds of shades. Two to three weeks without a chip.

This is what most people are actually asking for when they say they want their nails to last. Gel and dip powder both survive a real week — dishes, gym, keyboard — and both come off cleanly when they are removed properly rather than picked at.
We work with CND Shellac and Gelish for gel, and SNS for dip powder, plus Kiara Sky and DND across both. Professional lines only, stored properly and replaced often, which is the unglamorous reason the colour holds.
The difference between the two comes down to finish and feel: gel is thinner and glossier, dip is slightly thicker and adds a little strength. Neither is better; they suit different hands.

Options
Gel or dip — what changes
Gel colour (Gelish)
Painted like polish and cured under a lamp between coats. Thin, high gloss, and dry the moment you stand up. Two to three weeks is normal.
CND Shellac
A gel-polish hybrid that stays notably thin on the nail. Popular with anyone who dislikes the feeling of a thick coating and wants the finish to look like their own nail.
SNS dip powder
The nail is dipped into coloured powder over a bonding base rather than painted and cured. It adds a little thickness and strength, and often runs closer to three weeks.
Colour base and top coats
Kiara Sky soak-off colour base, OPI Gel Color Stay Shiny top coat, Gelish Top It Off and DND Duo, so the gloss and the wear are matched to the colour underneath.
Removal and rebalance
Proper soak-off, gentle lift and a fresh set, or a rebalance if the nail underneath is in good shape. Always book removal rather than doing it at home.
Why clients book gel & dip with us
Two to three weeks, honestly
Not a marketing figure. Gel holds two to three weeks and dip often runs closer to three, provided you oil the cuticles and wear gloves for wet work.
Hundreds of shades in both systems
The colour wall covers gel and dip, so you are not picking from a short tray because of the system you chose.
Removal that protects the nail
Soak-off, not scraping. Picking gel off takes the top layer of your natural nail with it, and that is what causes the thin, bendy nails people blame on gel itself.
Making it last
How to look after it once you leave.
- 01
Cuticle oil is not optional here
Gel and dip are rigid. The nail underneath still flexes and grows, and oiled cuticles are what stop the edge lifting at day ten.
- 02
Never pick it off
The most common cause of damaged nails is not gel — it is removal by fingernail. If a corner lifts, come in and we will take it off properly.
- 03
Book removal before the three-week mark
Past that, growth at the base means the coating levers against the nail plate every time you knock it. Removal gets harder and the nail takes the difference.
- 04
Give your nails a break now and then
A week in regular polish or buffed bare between sets is not necessary for everyone, but if your nails feel thin it is the fastest way to reset them.
Questions
About gel & dip, specifically.
Something not covered here? Call 908-245-6300 — someone picks up during salon hours.
How long does dip powder last?
Typically two to three weeks, and often closer to three. It outlasts gel slightly because the coating is a little thicker. Cuticle oil and gloves for dishes make the biggest difference to where in that range you land.
Is dip powder or gel better for weak nails?
Dip adds a little more thickness and rigidity, so it can feel more protective on nails that bend. Neither strengthens the nail itself — what protects a weak nail is careful removal and keeping the cuticles oiled.
Does gel damage your nails?
Properly applied and properly soaked off, no. Almost all the damage blamed on gel comes from peeling it off, which takes the top layer of the nail plate with it. That is why we would rather you came in for removal.
Can I get dip powder over my natural nails?
Yes. Dip does not require extensions or tips — it goes straight over your own nail with a bonding base.
Which brands do you use?
CND Shellac and Gelish for gel, SNS for dip powder, plus Kiara Sky, OPI and DND Duo for colour bases and top coats. Professional lines only.
